The special challenge involved in producing a multi mode mobile is in finding ways to share the components between the different standards.Obviously, the phone keypad and display should be shared, otherwise it would be hard to treat as one phone.Beyond that, though, there are challenges at each level of integration.How difficult these challenges are depends on the differences between systems.

The different variants of the GSM system have only different frequencies and so aren't even considered true multi-mode phones but rather are called multi-band phones.When talking about IS-95/GSM multi-mode phones, for example, or AMPS/IS-95 phones, the base band processing is very different from system to system.

This leads to real difficulties in component integration and so to larger phones.Mobile phones are now heavily used for data communications such as SMS messages, browsing mobile web sites, and even streaming audio and video files.The main limiting factors are the size of the screen, lack of a keyboard, processing power and connection speed.Most cellphones, which supports data communications, can be used as wireless modems (via cable or bluetooth), to connect computer to internet.Such access method is slow and expensive, but it can be available in very remote areas.

Connection speed is based on network support.Originally data transfers over GSM networks were possible only over CSD (circuit switched data), it has bandwidth of 9600 bit/s and usually is billed by connection time (from network point of view, it does not differ much from voice call).Later, there were introduced improved version of CSD HSCSD (high speed CSD), it could use multiple time slots for downlink, improving speed.

Maximum speed for HSCSD is 42 kbit/s, it also is billed by time.Later was introduced GPRS (general packet radio service), which operates on completely different principle.It also can use multiple time slots for transfer, but it does not tie up radio resources, when not transferring data (as opposed to CSD and like).

GPRS usually is prioritized under voice and CSD, so latencies are large and variable.Later, GPRS was upgraded to EDGE, which differs mainly by radio modulation, squeezing more data capacity in same radio bandwidth.GPRS and EDGE usually are billed by data traffic volume.Some phones also feature real keyboards, such as the LG enV.

Testimonials are a critical part of effective copy to help build credibility and to reduce objections to purchase.But many of my clients have been asking lately how do we go about getting terrific testimonials?

Here are my top 5 pre-requisites before getting great testimonials.

1.Do great work.This should go without saying, but unless you do exceptional work you will not get people commenting about your exceptional quality or service.

2.Do what you say you will when you say you will do it.If you promise something, you need to deliver it either before or on time.It does no one any favours to promise much in order to get business and then under-deliver.

3.Be open and honest in your dealings with people.Give people your honest advice even if that means you do yourself out of an immediate client.They will remember the honesty and tell their friends.

4.Be consistent.Don't be brilliant one day and so-so the next.Keep your standards consistently high and you will get great results.That means if you promise you will deliver a newsletter weekly, quarterly or monthly, then stick to that schedule.Don't only send information out when you are trying to sell something.

5.Be friendly and warm.If you do great work but have the personality and warmth of a vanilla ice-cream you will not be memorable.Be friendly and warm with all of your clients.Discover the great things about each person you work with as this makes a huge difference in how you approach them.Focus on what you can do for them and not what they can do for you.

Before you go out and hunt down some testimonials here are a few rules to remember.

Ask!People mean well and may think great things about you, but unless you ask them they generally will not tell you what they are thinking.You need to ask for feedback.

Get consent.NEVER use someone's words without their recorded consent.

In their own words.This is a hard and fast rule.Never never never write a testimonial on behalf of someone else and get them to sign it.For starters it is not in their language style so it stands out a mile.If someone asks you to write it, these are great candidates to talk with them on the phone about what they like about your service.By talking with them and then jotting down their answers you can get around their writers block.

Don't make them up.It is illegal and will get you into very hot water with companies such as the ACCC.

Keep it current.The best testimonials come immediately after purchase, or within a short space of time after purchase.Don't leave your testimonial gathering too late after the event.

Specific is better than general.Mrs Mary Smith of Littletownship in North Stradbroke is much more powerful than MS, Brisbane.

Film is the most powerful.All testimonials are great but film is more powerful than recordings, which are more powerful than words.

Now, assuming you have the pre-requisites and the rules down pat, here are my top ways to actually get testimonials.

Systematize the process.Build in asking for testimonials as part of your process for purchasing.Send a follow-up email through your auto-responder program 7 days after purchase asking for feedback on the product or service.

Client satisfaction doubles as testimonial gathering.Finding out what your customers like and dislike about your product or service through a client satisfaction survey serves two purposes.You get early warning of things that need to be improved with your business as well as potentially some great testimonials you can use in your marketing.

Make it easy for them.Contact your best customers and ask them to "jot down a few words" about what they liked about your business.This could be in an e-mail or on a postcard.

You need to be clear that you only want them to "jot" rather than "write a testimonial".Jotting is much less confronting for people than writing a testimonial and you are more likely to get a favourable response.

Call them.Telephones are not dead in the age of email.You can call your top customers to ask them for feedback on your services both good and bad.As they are talking, jot down what they say.Action the things they mention that need to be improved (and tell them when you have actioned them).

If you get someone raving about you on the phone say "wow - thank you!I am so glad you loved our service.Would you mind if I used some of the things you just said in a testimonial for our business?" Email them the words they used and ensure you get written consent before using the words.

Use a tick sheet or scale.People often are more willing to fill in a tick-a-box survey, or circle their satisfaction with your service on a scale.This allows for some great statistical compilation data "98% of all our customers say we give great to exceptional service".

So now you have some great ways to get terrific testimonials.Use them everywhere in your copy, your website, your brochures, your flyers and all marketing.

Here are six ideas that I always try to keep in front of me - where I can see them every time I look up from my computer screen, to help me set priorities and work on the highest priority (highest probability) projects at all times.

First, I always try to take the time to get clear on my goal and objectives.Accuracy first, momentum second - remember it doesn't matter that you are making good time, when you are headed in the wrong direction.When I am on target with what's important, the priorities I set will continue to move me in the direction of the objectives I am seeking.

Second is keeping a long-term view or perspective and work toward the things today than can have the greatest impact on my future.Keeping my life's objectives in balance is a key here - setting priorities in the areas of health and relationships are just as important as the money and career priorities.Having used this system for over three decades I am seeing the results from years gone bye today - which really motivates me to focus today's behaviors on tomorrow's intended results.

Third, I make a commitment to improve those aspects of my life that are most important to me.In your case, if you are in sales then learn exactly how to be an excellent sales person.If you are a parent then focus on being the best one you can be.It is true today and always has been - the power is on the side of the person with the most practical knowledge - it will be your leg up on your competition.

Forth is about taking the time to do your work right the first time.In other words measure twice, cut once.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.Why is it there is never enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it over?You get the idea.The fewer mistakes you make the less time you'll waste.

Fifth, remember it's not the amount you put in that counts.It is the amount and % of time you spend on high priority tasks.You will always (and only) be paid for the results you get - not simply the hours you spend on the job.

And finally, never forget that the most important part of setting priorities is your ability to make good choices.You are always free to choose to take on one thing or another.You may choose a high value activity or a low value activity.You may choose something that is tension relieving and not goal achieving.

But once you choose you must accept the consequences, so choose wisely.

Make up your mind today to set clear priorities in every area of your life and always choose those activities that will assure you the greatest health, happiness, and prosperity in the long run.

What will the long run look like for you?Will it be the time you'll wish you'd done the things you are not doing now?Or will it be the time you'll look back and see, literally see, the choice points and how you chose the road less taken?
