Presentation Skills - The Path To An Impactful Presentation

Most roles in business require good presentation skills. Not only is proficient communication essential to convey information, an exciting or entertaining delivery is an integral ingredient for keeping an audiences attention and ultimately getting the response you want. A successful presentation will have energy from beginning to end, engage the audience, use dynamic body language and include innovative and creative ways of bringing facts to life and making them memorable. All the while, death by PowerPoint should be avoided at all fees. Skilled presentation accomplishments can be hand-me-down in a few aspects of functioning subsistence, delight in winning pitches, to realizing a pay raise. Realizing your messages across in addition to impact will contribute you the prudent imaginable explanations.

Practice is akin and sensation. A poorly meant presentation, lecture or pitch will go out you panicky, merely preoccupied and vulnerable to a feisty listener if you havent got your episodes on two legs. You will crave to fathom your target eavesdropper, pin-take the objective of the delivery, and be comprehensible about what on earth your key messages are. Beyond that you appetite a great deal of exercises to check that you stay indoor the carried out occasion, get on top of any possible tongue twisters and okay tune the content. There are so a couple of tangents that an inadequately produced presentation can go bringing up the rear; the additional you rehearse, the more of these winding paths you will discover, along along furthermore frozen-end record that you can elect to keep away from. Further importantly you can make sure you can carry your pleased to subsistence and style if highly impactful. If you can practise in front of someone who will contribute you response, or movie yourself, so that you can see how you come across, that will be exceptionally correct. Ideally, for a big and central presentation you would love to submit to one or two personality presentation exploits exercises or coaching for a couple counselor-at-law and tailored counsel.

Originally of all its foremost to get hold of your hearer. Knowing who the recipient are their roles, objectives and worries should urge the way you agenda and deliver a presentation. Correctly cherish the take off, all your key messages should you be tailored to join your objectives and theirs. Make guaranteed that all references, gossips and metaphors relate to the topical ingredients and cares of your eavesdropper, ensuring assured that you carry it related to the scheme not up to chat.

Its exceptionally quintessential to open your presentation in addition to a crash. Its far lighter to souvenir to an eavesdropper whos hint youve grabbed and which is engaged. There are numerous ways to do this: you might reminiscent of to start off as well as a attention grabbing or surprising the whole story, ask them a speculate, introduce an analogy or get to the bottom of a funny story. These are easily a few ideas - there are some added ways to open as well as impact.

By means of PowerPoint, or an additional brand of media display can bring a presentation to life, illuminate points and abet one another fix in peoples minds. Except, it can likewise undergo the opposite outcome, so its imperative to get it accurately. Any slides cast off in a presentation should be kept to a minimum and contains competently the key points. As a suggest, you should carries with it no extra than 6 libretto per file and 6 lines per slide. This keeps the slides plain and effortless to comprehended and avoids overload. It can in addition be constructive to display each take individually as you discussion almost about it, to keep away from the audience prancing in advance and not concentrating on anything youre saying. If you do this though, certify your reveals are consistent and that theyre not whizzing in derive pleasure all sides and nuts sound effects for each - this will simply confuse your receiver and brand you glance amateur. In its place, it should be the lines you use, the chitchats and stories you enlighten and the related imagery you use that hire, amuse and rouse the auditor.

Pictures, diagrams and graphs can support transport occurrences and celebrities to survival and abet themselves fuse in peoples minds. A systematically chosen image or chart can attempt a steer domicile far added productively than a absolute slide of lyrics. Occasionally it can moreover be helpful to use flick clips to shift the velocity and add concentration. They should be kept short although, to stay away from the viewers briefing traveling.

In any case, be set for interrogatives. A nonetheless configured and educational speech will rouse audiences to retort and plan you may not know-how imagined, or unintentionally forgot in study. Its a good idea to flag up loves the kicking off every time you will be retorting to queries, to evade disruptive interrogatives right through. When yet again, knowing the area in out will prepare you for interrogatives like any bend. Throw in yourself episode to retort, repeat the wonder back for the listener, try not to waffle when you solution and dont get psychological If you dont absorb the answer, its ok to confess that, but illustrate to one another youll dig up out and get back to themselves. Or add one another an way out to the wise of your capability, but simplify that youre not 100 assured.

There are some additional instruction to establishing the perfect presentation, but these should get you started out and abet you to type your presentation apparent, impressive and sweet. Presentation prosperity drills will carry you by the use of a number of areas of suggestion and opinion, add you the likelihood to practise and confer personalised reaction and counsel.

A Comprehensive Guide To Sourcing Venues

In a commercial climate where everything is being outsourced, conference and meeting facilities are no exception. Whether that be a small company wishing to raise their image for an important sales meeting or a multi-national wishing to host an internal conference, sourcing the correct venue is essential.

Previously it was commonplace for event co-ordinators to be employed within companies with the express responsibility of sourcing venues, making travel arrangements and hotel booking. Many companies have now streamlined by restructuring and sourcing venue finding services from third parties as and when needed, which is cost effective as their services are generally more moderate than an annual salary.

The venue sourcing industry covers a multitude of companies. Larger organisations with the highest volume of daily usage will use travel companies who arrange meeting rooms, hotels and travel details. These companies tend to have fixed rates with national hotel chains and have a fixed rate per room which simplifies invoicing and projections.

Although these companies usually have an exclusive contract with the travel companies it tends not to cover events outside of a certain specification. For this an event management company can be sourced who will not only find a suitable venue but will also take responsibility for every detail of the event.

Both of these companies will charge an agreed percentage of the total cost of the booking with the client and will sometimes also charge the venue a similar fee. This can be quite expensive so many companies make use of the many venue finding services on the web who make their revenue from preferential listings for venues.

The list of venues is still comprehensive as they offer venues free basic listings and many of the sites contain all the essential information and links to relevant websites. With preferential venues there are many features including virtual tours. Pre-internet, the venue finding service was previously in a book and accompanied by a CD-rom.

The obvious benefits of these services are that the cost is covered by the venue therefore costs nothing for the client seeking a venue. The only issue being that venues who have not paid the website do not have any specific details, however these can usually be found by pasting the venue name into a search engine.
This is an easy way to a venue if you have a specific destination where the event must be located, as you can just shortlist and visit the locations in one visit.

Preferential listings come into their own on venue finding websites when you are looking at multiple destinations, as a brief scan over the venue details or virtual tour can reveal a destination being suitable or not, hence saving a visit.

When deciding on the right destination and venue many considerations have to be made. Primarily the obvious size and budget requirements, however parking, accommodation and transport links must also be high priorities.

Most venues will operate on the basis of a delegate rate. This is an all-encompassing price per head for each delegate, covering room hire, food, refreshments and AV equipment. It is helpful to remember that this price is usually negotiable as the delegate rates are not transparent, usually incorporating an inflated room hire charge.

It is advisable to always visit your shortlist before booking as it is important to meet the staff you will be working with and get a feeling for the location and facilities. The sourcing of the right venue comes down to matching your requirements to the facilities and services of a venue and these are represented most cost effectively through the venue finding websites.

Retirement - Investment Diversity Is The Key

When it comes to planning your financial retirement diversity really is the key to turning a significant profit. You do not want to have all your eggs in one basket.

For this reason it is an excellent idea to have a number of fingers in a number of pies, financially speaking of course, at any given time. There happen to be a lot of interpretations, unfortunately, of what it means to truly diversify your investment portfolio.

There are those who believe that to diversify your portfolio you only need to choose stocks in various sectors rather than focusing on one. This was a huge problem when the Dot Com boom went Dot Bust. Many people learned valuable lessons during this time frame and have taken it a little bit to heart.

However, there is nothing to say that we will never again experience a significant stock market crash. If this were to happen and your entire retirement hopes, dreams, and funds rested on the stock market for salvation you would be in deep and shark infested waters financially as a result.

I do not mean to imply that a stock market crash is probable or imminent by any means. The closest weve come as a nation to a stock market crash in recent memory was immediately after 9-11. The good news is that safeguards were put into place years ago to prevent a crash of the scale that we all know as "The Crash".

This means that while you may take heavy hits, chances are the market will recover if you are willing and able to wait it out. However, if you are putting yourself in a position to rely solely on stocks you need to take a serious look at your overall investment plan and see where changes can be made.

It goes without saying that no decision in regards to your financial future should be made without first discussing them with your financial advisor. My purpose here is to bring up questions and ideas you might wish to consider or at the very least discuss with your advisor.

My personal preference is to have some money tied up in mutual funds and other money tied up in real estate, which can provide some form of continuous income month after month. Im not much of a gambler however and have chosen a low risk path to retirement financing and funding.

There are those who are far more adventurous than I when it comes to investing in their financial futures. For those of you who are willing to take the risks there are securities as an investment in order to provide a wildly speculative ride.

Securities are very risky for investors; particularly those who are novices and even some seasoned investment veterans tend to shy away from this sort of investment. If you do invest in securities, I strongly urge you not to risk your entire investment on them.

Mutual funds provide a little safer bet when it comes to your financial future. Again there are no guarantees but these are much safer bet than securities.

The problem with mutual funds for many is that there are so many from which to choose that it is still a difficult decision for beginning investors to make. These decisions are the reason that a good financial advisor is so terribly important when mapping out your financial destiny.

All in one funds are essentially collections of mutual funds. These provide a safe bet for those who wish to find an easy investment possibility that is a fairly safe if not wildly conservative to place your money and watch it slowly grow over time. All in one funds do tend to become less aggressive in time.

This means that as you age, they will become more conservative in the placement in your money in an effort to best protect it while still growing your money.

By placing a little of your money in many different places, you will see a much greater safety net when it comes to protecting your profits. Discuss your plans with your financial advisor and any concerns that you may have. Chances are they can help clear up any questions or doubts that you may have.

Contests as a Retail Marketing Strategy

Contests are an excellent retail marketing tactic for generating buzz and increasing foot traffic to a retail store. Contests are also a method by which to collect contact data from customers, to be used for direct mail and e-mail marketing campaigns.

The types of contests a retailer can plan are as limitless as his imagination. The objective of any contest should be to create the best possible incentive to get customers into the store, and to motivate them to place their contact information into the drawing box. Usually the incentive is a valuable grand prize, but can also take the form of a small gift given just for entering.

One example of a contest idea might be to ask customers to help name a mascot or character associated with the business. A retailer can create an entry form providing space for a contest entrants name, address, phone number, e-mail address and mascot name suggestion. If the retailer has a website, customers can enter the contest via an online entry form as well. The retailer can set dates associated with the contest such as an entry deadline, a first round selection of three finalists, and finally the date to announce the grand prize winner. The contest rules and progress can be included in all advertising and marketing campaigns within the contest timeframe, including the stores voicemail greeting, flyers, media advertising and website.

The grand prize for this contest might be an opportunity for the winner to appear in a series of local advertisements with the mascot and to have her name and photo appear on the air, in the press, and on the website. In addition, a prize basket could be offered to the winner and to the two semi-finalists.

Another tactic to collect additional contact data and to add longevity to the event might be to conduct the contest in two parts: once the three finalists have been selected, customers can be called back into the store or to the website to vote for their favorite of the three possible choices. In addition to being a fun idea, this type of contest can create great word-of-mouth advertising and a great deal of foot traffic.

Contests with media tie-ins are particularly good traffic builders, as the reach for potential entrants is greater than usual. An example of this type of contest might involve a retail store owner inviting customers to come into the store to obtain a lottery-type ticket of numbers, in exchange for entering the contest via the entry form providing their contact information. Customers would be instructed to listen to a particular radio station at a particular time, or to purchase the local newspaper on a particular date to obtain the winning numbers drawn and compare them to her ticket. The customer holding the winning ticket is the grand prize winner.

The publication or station printing or airing your ads benefits from a tie-in contest, as it receives an increase in listeners and newspaper sales on a particular day. A radio station may provide a discounted advertising rate to motivate a retailer to direct listeners to a show in need of a ratings boost, or to a particular section of the newspaper in need of readers.

Contests are great opportunities to obtain contact information, generate foot traffic, and inspire word-of-mouth advertising for a retail store. Include a series of contests in your annual retail marketing plan.

Free Press: How To Get Major Columnists, Journalists And Reporters To Talk About You In Articles

There's no doubt that at some point in your career you've had a new product to sell, a new service you're offering or some other piece of news that you knew would make a great story in a magazine or newspaper which could provide some great free marketing for you. The next thing that probably crossed your mind- how could you make that happen?

For most people, the problem is that they stop right there, at the "wondering" stage and just have no idea how to go from having a great story to tell to getting written up in a local or national publication. Well, not anymore! We're going to take care of that problem right now by showing you how to get noticed by writers so you can open the door to free press.

Let's look at this issue with an example that you are probably more familiar with first, then, we'll tie it back into the subject at hand: getting free press. If you want to do business with someone, you usually have to connect with them several times and create a relationship of some kind, right? There aren't many people left in this world who hear a message for the first time and bite right into it. There's simply too much clutter flying around to take notice of everything, so most of us have to be reminded of the same message 7-9 times before we take notice of it. These writers are no different: so, what you have to do is try to find a way to start a conversation with them and build a relationship. It's no different than you would do with any prospect in your business. So, let's look at how you can introduce yourself and start a conversation.

Most publications publish the email address of the writers at the bottom of each column and oftentimes they even solicit a response. You will usually see a tagline that reads something like:

Questions or comments about this article? We'd love to hear from you! To let Jon know what you think of his article, email him at example@example.com

How many people do you think actually take the time to email these authors? Right, not many. We even know some authors who wonder if anyone ever reads their columns! They're dying to have somebody give them some feedback or correspond with them. They often just want someone to take notice of them, so this is where you can score some major points. Just take a few minutes to send the writer an email letting them know what you thought of their article. Just look at it as if they just started a conversation with you, laying out their entire point of view, and now they have paused and are waiting for you to give them an answer. It's that simple. Even a short email that simply says, hey, "great article! I can't wait to read some more of your work!" is a great start.

Most authors of major publications also have blogs in addition to their columns where they write on a more regular basis. And most of these blogs allow readers to post comments on the blog. So, run a google search for the author's name or look in the publication to see if you can find a web address for their blog. If you find one, go to the blog address on your computer and bookmark it or subscribe to it by email or RSS (Really Simple Syndication - explaining this technology is beyond the scope of this article, but it's a great technology that streams news and articles directly to you without you having to ever go back to the source to get it. Check it out, it's great!). Be sure to check at least every few days to see what they are blogging about. Whenever you have something to say about their blog, you can post a comment. It's the same concept as emailing them after you have read one of their columns, but, you don't have to wait for the next publication to be printed, you can keep up-to-date and keep the "conversation" going whenever you like.

Once you have started some ongoing dialogue with a writer, and have started to build a relationship, don't you think they might pay attention to you when you have a story for them? They sure will! Good luck and let us know about your success from using this strategy.

Presentation Planning Tips: Planning a Dynamic Presentation

Getting ready for your next presentation This article is designed to provide you with presentation planning tips that will help you make a great impression on co-workers, supervisors or prospective clients. Specifics may vary from person to person; however, the following information includes helpful and important guidelines from which everyone can benefit.

The ability to present yourself and your ideas well is fundamental to success in the business world. After all, having good ideas is only part of the equation. You must also be able to get your ideas across to others logically, clearly and persuasively.

However, good presentation skills are not only limited to business situations. Teachers, students, coaches, people involved in civic duties or charitable organizations as well as countless other examples all have the need at one time or another to deliver an effective presentation.

One of the keys to making any presentation as dynamic as possible is proper planning.
To follow are five presentation planning tips to keep in mind as you prepare a presentation:

Presentation Planning Tip 1: Define your intentions. Its simple; just ask yourself, why am I creating this presentation In other words, what is its purpose Is it to sell my ideas Is it to motivate people To inform Defining a specific goal will help you create a blueprint in your mind of how to organize your presentation in order to reach your goal.

Presentation Planning Tip 2: Know your audience. Just as if you were crafting a letter to be read by a specific person, you will want to craft your presentation messages for the particular audience you are presenting to. Is it a group of your peers Are they at job levels above yours Are they customers Are they already knowledgeable about the topic you are presenting Are they in need of detailed explanations, or will broad-stroke overviews be sufficient Instead of concentrating solely on how you might benefit from what your presentation says, consider what your audience wants.

Presentation Planning Tip 3: Collect as much information as possible. Even if you are not planning on an intricately detailed presentation, you will still need plenty of background about the topic you are presenting. Gather whatever you think is applicable, then sort it out. Remember though that you do not want to overwhelm your audience with too much information because you may run the risk of confusing them. On the other hand, too little information may not do an adequate job of supporting the intentions of your presentation.

Presentation Planning Tip 4: Build structure into your presentation. Much like a good book or movie, your presentation should have a logical beginning, middle and end...with a flow that makes sense instead of jumping around all over the place. The last thing you want is for your audience to get lost and not be able to keep up with your train of thought as the presentation moves along.

Presentation Planning Tip 5: Practice, practice, practice. Make certain that you are thoroughly familiar with the material you will be presenting before you present it. Practice delivering the presentation out loud. Concentrate on such things as the need to make eye contact and avoid the temptation to bury your head in your notes. Also rehearse the projection of your voice, speaking clearly in relaxed, conversational tones.

Residual Income Opportunity: The Right Steps to Achieve Success

These days, everybody is into the lookout for what is called as the golden chalice. Why look farther when right before your eyes is the internet world? Indeed, the world of the cyberspace is a realm that is filled with so much opportunity and if you only know how to grab that chance, you can earn more than enough extra money that will ultimately beat your regular salary.

When the question regarding how to earn extra money starts to bug an individual, the very resort is to turn to the internet. More so, throughout time, the internet business has been filled with innumerable opportunities that offer the best solutions for the predicaments such as this.

Residual income does not synonymously go with a linear income. Meaning, there is no definite relationship between what procedures to engage yourself with with that of the way you try to achieve it. In direct comparison with your standard job, there is a certain relationship between your task and the money you earn from doing it whereas in the course of residual income opportunities that can be derived from the internet, everything is different.

Setting down your aspirations and goals will eventually lead you to learning the steps of how you will go about with the residual income opportunity that you opt for. You must therefore level your choice with your personal desires and traits and not be pushed around by the overflowing suggestions from the sales strategy of other people. One of the biggest advantages of preferring your very own residual income opportunity is because you are able to have your own way and that you are the boss in the situation.

Seriously comprehend on the characteristic of the customers of residual income opportunities. A business is able to live long because there are the loyal customers who continually patronize the products. You are in charged of taking care of them. You can offer them appealing discounts!

Always take time to optimize your residual income opportunity. Get the most suitable targets of buyers. It is senseless at all if you flood someone with the advertisements of your flower products when he is not even after buying flowers. Optimization means requiring nothing but the correct articles, contents, emails, websites, and ads in your business.

Knowing the right way of attacking the mainstream of residual income opportunities means leading yourself to the right path to success.

Whats the Typical Warranty Coverage for a Strapping Machine

When investing in a strapping machine, it is important to know what type of warranty coverage it has. That is because investments do break and many times those things may be covered under warranty. That is why it is good for you to know what the typical warranty coverage is just in case you may encounter a problem that could be covered under that warranty. It is good to familiarize yourself with the warranty when you receive the machine. It may be brand new, but that doesnt mean that something unusual could happen. It is unusual for a strapping machine to naturally break down within a short time of purchase, but it does happen once in a while. Strapping machines are very tough contraptions, but just like any machine, they can have problems soon after purchase.

Warranty length

The first thing you have to know is how long the typical warranty is. This can actually vary depending on who the manufacturer is, but the many strapping machine makers are not too far off from each other. The typical warranties are 30 days, 45 days, 60 days, and 90 days. In other words, you have the potential of having a warranty anywhere between 30 days and 90 days. So just because your strapping machine stopped functioning for an unknown reason on the 31st day doesnt mean that it is not covered. If you cant find your warranty information, you can contact the manufacturer instead of letting it go and hiring someone to fix something that may not have been your fault.

Unfortunately, after the warranty is when youre going to have to fit the bill for any break downs that occur, so make sure everything is functioning correctly within the first month after purchase. If it even looks like something is not behaving correctly, you want to contact the manufacturer as soon as possible and describe the problem. They may confirm that something is wrong and will take care of it before the warranty period has expired. This will keep you from having to pay big bucks for something that could have been prevented before the warranty had expired.

What it covers

The warranty usually covers parts and labor. What this means is that the parts will be replaced, especially if the parts broke down due to defect, and you will not have to pay to have those parts replaced. You also do not have to pay for the labor involved with replacing those parts. Depending on the size of your machine depends on whether or not the manufacturer is going to have to send an authorized repair person to your business. Luckily, there is still no charge for labor if the repair person has to come to your business as opposed to simply sending the defective part or the entire machine back to the manufacturer for repair.

There are also instances in which certain parts may be covered under the warranty no matter what. However, it is most likely that the manufacturers warranty is going to cover anything that breaks down because of an error on their part. You may also be given the option to purchase an extended warranty that covers more and then there may be certain parts of the strapping machine that may be covered under a lifetime warranty. Again, it just depends on who the manufacturer is, but you can bank on your typical warranty being for anywhere between 30 and 90 days and covering parts and labor for break downs that they consider their fault. Just familiarize yourself with the functioning of the machine and youll know if something is wrong.

Top 10 Reasons Your Dental Patients Dont Come Back, or Come at All

Based on what I see, day in and day out, theres a lot of confusion in the marketplace on what actions, activities, and so on, stimulates your patients to return time and time again to your practice. Too often, we assume incorrectly that just because weve seen a patient once, they owe it to us to come back.

That is dangerous and erroneous thinking. In fact, that kind of superiority complex can get a business, any business, in a boatload of trouble in a hurry.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, has to return to our businesses if they dont want to.

So, what are some "killers" you can identify and quickly eliminate in your practice to ensure your patients return AND refer Here are five of them...

1. Results perceived and actual versus results desired.

Thats right, you have to deliver what your patients want Theyre footing the bill. Give them what they want. Build the relationship with them, and later theyll be more receptive to what you recommend. Full-mouth reconstructions dont happen in one visit and neither does building a relationship. You have to deliver the results patients want. It can be perceived or actual, depending on the situation. Nonetheless, give them what they want.

2. Is it easy to do business with your practice

Its amazing to me, the number of companies that have actual "sales prevention" departments. Ill give you an example: Ive purchased thousands of dollars worth of pens and cool gifts for my clients from Myron, the specialty pen manufacturer. I emailed them once, asking if I could order a refill for my 3.00 pen that I really like. Heres the answer, verbatim, from their email:

Thank you for taking the time to express your interest in Myrons products and services. In response to your letter, Myron does not carry refills or inserts. We advise you to visit your local office supply store to inquire about generic refills or inserts. Or simply call us to re-order new pens and Pocket Pal diaries.

So, here they have an opportunity to make MORE sales to their clients and they turn me away to another store. Are you doing this with your patients Are you not recommending and carrying a fluoride rinse Floss they can purchase Toothpaste Sonic toothbrushes WHY NOT They have to buy it somewhere Why not carry it, at the very least as a convenience to your patients

3. Money issues.

This is a particularly HUGE pet peeve of mine. I abhor businesses, and will not patronize them, if they will not allow me to make purchases with my preferred method of buying: American Express.

I have a VISA and MasterCard, too, but I really like getting the miles and cash back for using my AmEx. WHY do companies insist on not taking a particular kind of credit card You should take any kind of payment that your patients want to give you. You must realize that you are losing sales and production if you make it hard to buy from you.

Further, if you are not offering financing that YOU control, then youre missing the boat. You could be earning thousands in interest by offering safe, convenient, fair payment plans that allow patients to get their work done on their terms, and allow them to afford the best dentistry delivered.

4. Value - Perceived and Actual.

Are you missing the magic moneymaker The value of a service is determined by how your patients feel when they leave. They tell you how much value they find in your practice by referring others and telling you in your surveys you ARE sending out surveys to your patients arent you. In the real world, perceived value is worth as much, and oftentimes more, than actual value. How patients feel about the value you deliver is critical. If you fail to gauge this on your practice success barometer, youre missing out. What do patients GET for doing business with you Do they just get good service and good dentistry Or, do they get something more Come on - use your imagination.

5. Not understanding the importance of marketing.

You had to assume that I would include marketing in here somewhere, right Of course. Marketing your practice isnt something to be taken lightly. It is important that your whole team understands what marketing is all about. Its critical that they know what the goal of your marketing is, and that marketing a business never stops. Its constant. Businesses, dental practices included, go belly-up without a constant and predictable stream of new patients. Marketing your practice is a planned event, with planned and predicted outcomes. For example: If you mail out 1500 postcards every three weeks, religiously, you will see a nice, steady flow of new patients rolling in every month, keeping your new-patient-slots full.

6. Strong patient flow today - Strong patient flow tomorrow.

It is easy, when you are booked out for a month or more and referring people to your friend across the street, to think that you dont need to market for a while. Its easy to think that you can take a "marketing break" and start-up again when things slow down. But, why would you ever want things to slow down Thats crazy Isnt the whole point of marketing to get patients in the door and watch your practice grow If you get too overwhelmed, get people in to help you. Take on a new associate. Hire more office staff. Get a bigger building.

Whatever you do, even if things look rosy now, be sure to realize that theres a 30-60 day ramp-up period with new patients coming in the door and getting their production and their referrals on the books.

7. "We didnt see any results from our first couple newsletter mailings. It must not work for me."

Truthfully, I have seen newsletters NOT work for a couple of my clients. Theyre no longer clients, either. After we found out how they were running their practice and learned about their disciplinary history from their dental boards, its no wonder. A blessing from the Pope wouldnt have helped.

If you expect results from marketing programs of any kind, you and your team have to be 110 committed to their success. Its no different than adapting a new technology to use in your practice. Your whole team has to be 110 supportive for it to be successful. Embrace change. Encourage change. It has to happen.

Marketing programs and advertising pieces get the phone to ring. Your team must sell the appointment and SELL to the patients once they arrive. There are lots of ways to drop the ball there... And, you cant blame it on the call generation technique, either

One thing Ive noticed about human nature: We humans need to be trained to do things. Seriously. We need to be trained how to be good clients of businesses. We need to be trained how to be good patients that show up on time for appointments. We need to be trained as toddlers how to go to the bathroom, for crying out loud Now, as adults, thought is not even required.

So, it would stand to reason that you would need to train your patients to refer to you, and that is going to take patience just like mom had when she was potty training us, to get them to take action, refer, and refer again.

If on that first, second, or even third mailing of a patient newsletter, your results are not where you expected, have patience. People need to be trained Your patients are no different. Keep telling them what to do, and eventually theyll get the message. And they will begin to refer.

8. Mishandling of incoming calls.

This is probably the No. 1 most common problem in an over-whelming majority of dental practices... and other businesses as well.

I dont have the room, here in this article, to go into great detail about this, but suffice it to say, the easiest way to kill repeat visits, and first visits for that matter, is to mishandle phone calls of all kinds.

Dead air is a big problem with a lot of offices. This mostly occurs due to lack of training, and the people answering the phone are not capable of, or interested in, selling an appointment. If the person answering the phone does not have the proper mindset to sell the appointment, they wont. Therefore, callers can easily change their minds before making the appointment. Practice. Educate. Review. Practice. Thats what its all about. Establish a system in your practice that covers the P.E.R.P.

9. Lack of follow-up.

This is another HUGE pet peeve of mine. All you have to do is train your front office staff to follow-up with patients that call and do not schedule for whatever reason. Send out these people information about your practice, why they should visit you versus others and what makes you unique. AND, included a special offer. This makes your practice even more enticing.

Just by taking a couple easy follow-up steps, you could easily save 15-20 patients a year. Patients that you might never have gotten to do treatment on otherwise.

Another area that many practices lack, in follow-ups, is post-op calls and post-op gifts. You have to do these if you expect referrals Establish some guideline and begin it Monday morning.

Also, review your systems in place for undone treatment follow-ups. Do you have something in place to handle that issue and is it being done

10. Too busy. Not enough time to dedicate to patients.

You can solve this problem by outsourcing non-revenue producing tasks. Hire cheap labor think high school students to take care of mundane, must-be-done-in-office tasks, like filing. I hear a lot of complaints from dentists that their team is overworked and overloaded, unable to get what needs to be done... done. Here are two solutions to this:

outsource things like insurance follow-ups and past due account follow-ups. This way, your team will be able to spend more time with patients. Thats what its all about, the patients

So, today, take a moment to consider each of these "killers" and how they might be affecting your practice. Make alterations to ensure that your patients keep coming back to you, time and time again.
